Formed in 2007, the Soundscapes trio was originally a quintet. As a quintet they released their debut album ‘Globaletic’ performing mostly compositions by Cleon Barraclough, who ‘…is a natural both as a pianist and composer…’ (Steven Newcomb). Globalectic features “…five of Australia’s most acclaimed improvising musicians…” (Jazz Queensland). Angular harmonic ideas and strong rhythmic expressions combine to add colour to this dynamic fusion of Jazz, Latin, Classical and Funk styles. Globalectic takes listeners on a journey with progressive, modern tones and interactive improvisation woven into the musical fabric. Stand-out solos illuminate each song’s narrative.
With the quintet album under their belt the new Soundscapes trio of Cleon Barraclough, Luke Pammenton and David Galea are excited to explore the possibilities of performing with the freedom that comes with a trio setting. Each member of the band is committed to performing original music with each contributing with their own compositions.
The Soundscape Trio are currently working on new for their new album to be recorded in early 2014.
As a quintet they have performanced at the Brisbane Jazz Club, The Valley Jazz Festival the Brisbane Powerhouse and a sold out performance at the Gold Coast Art’s Centre which met with an inspired and enthusiastic response. The Soundscapes success is rapidly increasing with numerous articles, radio interviews and playback on ABC FM’s Jazztrack, the Gold Coast’s Jazz radio and Classic FM to name a few.
